Help to stop the killing
Adopt a Lion
Connection is the most important way to conserve what is most important to us. Through a symbolic adoption, your contributions provide a connection between you and the wild lion population in Botswana. Each collared lion is named by the local community providing deep engagement between the villagers and individual lions in their area. Each lion is fitted with a satellite collar that provides text alerts to villagers when the lions approach. In response, villagers can take preventative action to protect their families and livestock so retaliatory lion killing can stop.
In this way your contribution helps protect these wild lions, their habitats and neighboring village communities.
Adopt (one or more) today and receive a photo of your lion, an adoption certificate and regular updates!

MARIRI
Mariri was collared in November 2022 in the Kadizora area, in the western region of our study area. Having taken over for Zikwerwa’s mate, Although he is one of the older lions to take over a territory in our area, he has partnered up with a young male. His experience combined with the younger male’s strength may pay off for this duo. Mariri has a large territory to cover with several lone females across the floodplains below Gunotsoga and Eretsha Villages. We look forward to learning more about him over the next several years.
